Medical Programs

“Dr. Rubén Marín” Medical, Surgical and Nutritional Unit

Medical specialist volunteers periodically perform various medical specialties days, including ophthalmology, psychiatry, internal medicine, dermatology, pediatrics, cardiology and dentistry

Medical mobile unit

It provides medical care to indigenous populations that are located a long distance away from Tlapa de Comonfort, Guerrero because people living in these areas are not able to visit our medical unit. This mobile unit has been adapted with all the equipment necessary to provide general medicine and dentistry consultation
The medical mobile unit includes high technology equipment to meet primary care needs, including the distribution of medicines

“See Again Without Cataracts” (Volver a Ver sin Cataratas)

“See Again Without Cataracts” (Volver a Ver sin Cataratas) medical-surgical days
The physical conditions in the mountains of Guerrero require specialized medical care, especially in ophthalmology, which is why we have conducted for eleven consecutive years (from 1997 to 2007) the medical-surgical days “See Again without Cataracts” (Volver a Ver sin Cataratas) in which 938 cataract surgeries with intraocular lens placement have been performed and other diseases have been addressed through 7,752 specialized consultations

Nutrition Programs

Dining room for children and Slurry program
The dining room for children has been in operation for 3 years and provides one daily meal to school-aged children, help with their school work and literacy training to their mothers
The slurry is provided to children aged between 0 and 5 years old because it contains a high nutritional value. Their mothers are trained in its preparation and receive all the necessary ingredients

Productive Programs

Spinning and weaving in waist loom developed by Mixtec women through training provided by experts on traditional fabrics
Regional contest of Huipils’ spinning and weaving reached its 4th edition in Metlatonoc, Guerrero. This contest aims to promote a productive project where weaving women use the waist loom to create products suitable to the traditional garment market and get an income to improve their life quality, preserving their cultural roots.

Social Programs

University volunteers from Europe and different states of Mexico build classrooms in La Angostura, San Isidro and San Nicolás communities. They provide school regularization sessions to children that attend these classrooms
